Microplastics detected in human blood

Microplastics detected in human blood

We know that microplastics are omnipresent and pervasive in our environment, with microplastics being present in the air we breath, the water we drink and in the food we eat. We’ve long suspected that the presence of microplastics in our environment will have a negative affect on human health. It is shocking but no surprise to read Common Seas’ Paper which shows that microplastics are present in the human bloodstream following tests on 22 healthy adults with almost 80% coming back positive for containing plastic.

Jo Royal, founder of the charity Common Seas says “We still don’t know what effect this will have on the human body but the discovery should be a major cause for concern as plastic pollution is set to double by 2040”.

Recent studies show that microplastics attach themselves to the outer membranes of the red blood cells which can limit their ability to supply oxygen throughout the body as well as other recent research shows that the presence of microplastics changes the shape of human cells.

Our Cleaner Seas i-1 filter is designed to capture microfibres shed from your washing machines right down to 1 micron in size. Not only that, it will also capture tiny plastic particles that are already in the water system and extract them from the water cycle.
